This project includes a new Autism Center facility for the West Plains campus, which will house the ASCEND program and serves as a home base for students attending the University who are on the spectrum. It will also provide classroom space for degrees that have an emphasis in autism and neurodiversity support. The facility will be located to the west of Gohn Hall and south of the amphitheater. As a part of this project, a portion of Franklin Avenue will be closed. The new facility will incorporate autism specific architectural strategies, with special attention paid to sensory inputs such as acoustics, textures, spatial sequencing, and wayfinding. This project is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number SLFRP4542 awarded to State of Missouri by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. |
