General Membership Meeting
Join us for breakfast for the June General Membership meeting – the last one before Summer Break. The meeting is one week later than normal at OTC – Plaster Center for Advanced Manufacturing followed by tours of the Construction Programs in Lincoln Hall.

Member Spotlight

Harness Roofing & Waterproofing Inc. or otherwise known as “HRI” is a Commercial and industrial Roofing and Waterproofing Contractor. They provide such services as New Construction, re-roofs, roof evaluations and assessments, roof maintenance programs, roof repairs, emergency 24-hoour repairs. Their specialties are Metal roofing, which consists of Standing seam applications, Sheet metal restorations, sheet metal design and fabrication. They also specialize in Low-Slope Roofing, which consists of Single Ply, Modified, Built-Up Roofs, Sustainable Roofing, Green Roofing. They have a Service division that specializes in Leak repairs, roof maintenance and 24-7 emergency roof repair. Lastly their Waterproofing division focuses on Joint Sealants, Expansion Joints, Below grade waterproofing, Elastomeric coatings, Water repellants, Masonry restoration, Concrete restoration, Chemical grout injection and Air barrier applications.

The company was started in 1976 by Roger Harness in Harrison Arkansas. He was able to get a small startup business loan and was off and running, while also beginning his young family with his wife Patti and children Christine, Beth Ann, and Justin Harness. As the company grew, Roger began to take on new geographical markets and set up shops in other areas across Arkansas, Oklahoma, North Louisiana, and Springfield Missouri. Today the company has 9 locations outside of its corporate office which is still based in Harrison. The company employs approximately 300 people companywide. Roger has since retired from the company as of a couple of years ago and enjoys ranching, traveling, and spending time with family. Justin Harness has taken the rains from his father and is now the President of HRI. Justin’s wife Lauren is the CEO of their sister company HSS. HSS is proud to be a certified “Woman Owned” company. Justin and Lauren are very active in both businesses and plan on carrying on Roger Harness’s legacy for many years to come.

One little known fact about the HRI company would be how, “Giving Back” the Harness family is to its employees and some certain organization’s that mean a lot to the family…… One being a profit-sharing plan that is spread around to every employee at years end when the company performs well and another being a large supporter of Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Harness Roofing enjoys all the SCA events, particularly the Skeet Shoots as well as the Golf Tournaments. Both events give them the opportunity to network with customers and peers as well as help create new business opportunity relationships. Plus, they like to have fun and they are a blast they say!

Build U – Week Long Summer Program

Do you know any students who are interested in entering the trades? Registration is open for the third annual Build U program! Build U is a week long summer program for 30 students age 16-19 years old presented by the Springfield Contractors Association. The program focuses specifically on the trades for those who are interested but unsure exactly where they might fit best.

There is no extra cost for SCA members to join Generation Next. Generation Next is the under 40 group of the Springfield Contractors Association. They have monthly meetings and invite all SCA members to participate in social events and community service opportunities.

If you have employees that are under the age of 40 and want to get involved in Generation Next or you want to know more about the group, please contact Gordon Lane at glane@nixonins.com.
