Volunteers
If you or your staff would like to get plugged in, please reach out to the SCA office to see where you might best fit in as a volunteer.
We are specifically needing Bus Volunteers again this year – Meet in the morning and ride on the bus with the students from location to location. It is a full day commitment (event is 9 am – 4 pm), but this is the best way to get time to connect with the students!
Participant Details
If you know anyone age 16-19 considering a career in the trades, but they aren’t not sure where to start, Build U is for them. Participants will get a week of first-hand learning, touring jobsites, hearing about different trades, and meeting the people who can answer questions because they’re already on the job.

There is no cost to attend! The Springfield Contractors Association will provide lunch, t-shirts, hardhats, and safety glasses. Transportation is provided throughout the day, but participants will need transportation to/from the meeting place each morning/evening. Participants will receive gas cards at the end of each day. One participant who attends ALL WEEK will win a $100 Amazon gift card.
What will participants get to see and do?
Monday – Concrete & Asphalt Construction, Civil Construction, Heavy Equipment
Tuesday – Roofing/Sheet Metal, Structural Steel Welding, Rebar
Wednesday – Plumbing, Pipefitting, Electrical, HVAC
Thursday – Brick and Block Laying, Wood and Metal Framing, Drywall, Tile/Flooring & Finishing
Friday – Jobsite Tours, Industry Meet & Greet
